ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is a global society advancing human well-being through sustainable technology for the built environment. The Society and its members focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration and sustainability within the industry. Through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education, ASHRAE shapes tomorrow’s built environment today. ASHRAE was formed as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers by the merger in 1959 of American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHAE) founded in 1894 and The American Society of Refrigerating Engineers (ASRE) founded in 1904.
1997 was important year when ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc) affiliates Pakistan HVACR Society. which is the largest institution of its kind in Pakistan having more than 1,800 members Nation wise.
The Society successfully made efforts for establishing of an ASHRAE Chapter in Pakistan.
In Pakistan ASHRAE Chapters details are :-
2003: 1st ASHRAE PAKISTAN Chapter, Karachi
2005 : 2nd ASHRAE Centeral Pakistan Chapter, Northern Pakistan (Islamabad & Lahore)
2006: 3rd ASHRAE Northern Pakistan Chapter, Islamabad
This became possible due to dedicated interest, prolonged and hectic efforts of the management and in particular, Chapters President, who had always been instrumental and looking for the possibilities of improvement and betterment, both internally and externally.
Currently there are about two hundred ASHRAE members in Pakistan and we now have three ASHRAE chapters in Pakistan. We also have seven ASHRAE student Chapters in the country.
The ASHRAE Northern Pakistan successfully conducted annual exhibitions and Conferences on rotational basis at Islamabad, Lahore & Karachi. The interest shown by the industrial sector, businessmen groups and all concerned with HVACR activities, is definitely a healthy and encouraging sign for the progress, prosperity and technological advancement in the country.
